$642,000 Boost for East Gippsland
This week we announced a further $642,538 in funding for 27 projects across East Gippsland, continuing our long-term commitment to communities impacted by the 2019–2020 Black Summer Bushfires.
Now in its seventh major Bushfire Recovery funding round, the grants are made possible through publicly donated funds entrusted to the Foundation in the aftermath of the fires.
While the immediate response phase has passed, the focus of this funding has evolved to support initiatives that strengthen community capacity, connection and long-term resilience.
GCF Executive Officer Michelle Dowsett said the grants reflect the enduring needs and strengths of local communities.
“Recovery continues to take shape in different ways across communities. Behind each of these projects are local volunteers and committees who’ve identified a need, put in the work to bring an idea forward, and will see it through to something tangible for their whole community.”
Examples of funded projects include:
Bemm River Community Recreation Centre Inc. will install a generator at the recreation reserve, supporting reliable access to power for community use and emergency readiness ($31,294).
Ensay Mechanics Institute Reserve Inc. will upgrade heating and cooling at the Ensay Hall, improving comfort and year-round use of this important community space ($12,238).
Friends of the Mitta will host a Volunteer Give Back Day, recognising and strengthening the local volunteer base ($3,500).
GCF acknowledges and thanks its funding partners Community Enterprise Foundation and State of Victoria Department of Justice and Community Safety, along with the many members of the public whose donations made this work possible. Their support continues to be entrusted to initiatives that reflect local priorities and deliver meaningful, lasting impact.
