Building skills and confidence in Bruthen
In rural and remote communities, access to training is not always a given.
In May, eight women from Bruthen and surrounding districts completed nationally recognised chainsaw certification through Rural Industry Skills Training, delivered by Bruthen and District Neighbourhood House, in partnership with Thrive Training and Compliance.
Over two programs of two days, participants developed practical skills in chainsaw maintenance, trimming and cross-cutting. Participants learned these essential skills in a safe and supportive environment, empowering them to confidently and safely navigate tasks such as firewood collection and other chainsaw-related activities.
For participants, the training instilled a sense of empowerment, and increased self-sufficiency. Gippsland Community Foundation recognises the importance of creating access to opportunities that are often out of reach in rural regions.
“B&DNH sincerely appreciate the support and generosity of the Gippsland Community Foundation in making this valuable training opportunity a reality for the women of Bruthen and district. Your contribution was instrumental in empowering these women with essential skills and fostering a more resilient and self-sufficient community.”
